Understanding the Rules When Writing Articles in the 3rd Person

It is when you are narrating a story that would involve writing in the third person. And for this condition, the writing is referred as a form of narrative.

It is then better to understand what is writing in the 1st person compared to the narrative form of writing to be able to write as in such 3rd form.

First of all, writing in the 1st person view is writing situations as if seeing them yourself, like in the point of “I” view. For example, you will write your sentence like “The first time I saw her face, I thought how beautiful she is.”

There is another writing which is the second person where the point of perspective is under “you”. Thus, you will read articles written like “If you have not seen a beauty, take a look at her.”

So, going back to the 3rd person writing, this is the situation when you are acting as the narrator, and the perspective is that you are not really part of the story. If you are the narrator, you can describe the events or situations of your story to any mode or manner you like. Imagine the narrator making up the story in a light hearted or heavy way, and speaking the thoughts of another person even without the knowledge of the other person.

So, if you want to write following on the 3rd person way, there are some pointers that you can consider to help you.

The first pointer is to decide whether you go to a limited point of view, meaning you want to tell the story from one character, or the omniscient point of view where you will tell the story from all of the characters’ points of view.

The next pointer is to decide the objective of your narration, whether your narration is only about the actions of your character or narrate all of both thoughts and actions of the character. Note that in third person writing, the objective is to account the actions of the characters and you do not narrate the feelings or thoughts of the characters.

Writers consider this third guideline of third person writing as really fun because narrators get to choose the voice of their characters. As the narrator in this form of writing, you have the choice whatever you like of your character depending on the tone of your story, from a character you want to be a mild-mannered person, or a lunatic society figure, or even create your own person to be the lead of your characters.
